How much does shipping cost?

🚚 So… how much does shipping cost in New Zealand?
One of the questions we get every single day is “How much is shipping?” And the short answer?
👉 It depends on where you live and how big your parcel is!
The slightly longer answer? Here’s a super simple guide so you can get a feel before checkout 🥳
📦 First up — how shipping actually works
Most courier companies calculate shipping using something called volumetric weight (fancy word alert!). That means they consider either:
- the actual weight, OR
- the size of the parcel
…and whichever one is bigger wins.
So a box of rusks might weigh more, but a giant bag of chips is light but physically huge. (Chips love to be dramatic.)
🇳🇿 Shipping estimates for New Zealand
These aren’t exact prices, but a good ballpark guide based on a typical order:
| Region | Small Parcel (chips, biscuits, chocolate) |
Medium Parcel (sauces, spices, baking goodies) |
Large Parcel (bulk items, hampers, braai orders) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auckland | $6–$10 | $10–$18 | $15–$25 |
| North Island | $7–$12 | $12–$22 | $18–$30 |
| South Island | $9–$14 | $14–$25 | $20–$38 |
| Rural Delivery | Usually +$3–$8 extra | ||
Bulky or Oversized Items
Some items look innocent… until they meet a courier scale. Very large or unusually shaped products can cost more to ship, even if they don’t weigh much. This includes things like Sixty60 Motorbikes, firewood bundles, or any parcel that takes up a lot of space.
Because couriers charge by whichever is bigger — actual weight or physical size — bulky items may fall into a higher price bracket.
🌍 Shipping to Australia
Yes — we ship to our lovely cousins across the ditch! 🇦🇺
| Region | Typical delivery range |
|---|---|
| VIC, NSW, QLD | $19–$29 |
| WA, TAS, SA | $26–$39 |
| Remote / Regional | Calculated automatically at checkout |
Delivery times depend on customs clearance, so sometimes a parcel might take a little longer to hop across the ocean 🐨
💡 Examples (to give you a feel)
- 6 bars of chocolate to Wellington = usually $10–$14
- Chips + spices to Christchurch = around $12–$18
- Family braai order to Invercargill = roughly $18–$32
- Parcel to lucky auntie in Melbourne = normally around $24–$35
Again, these are guides — we’ve seen cheaper, we’ve seen higher, depends on the size and weight.
🤔 What affects shipping prices?
Mostly:
- distance from Auckland
- parcel size
- parcel weight
- rural vs metro
- the amount of bubble wrap needed to keep Mrs Balls safe (she likes protection)
